June 11th, 2009Acne
by : Rob SmithAcne refers to the unsightly pimples, spots, and cysts that many people develop on their face. While it usually is most prevalent in teenagers, it can also affect adults, even well into their next few decades, as well.
Acne is caused by clogged pores. Increased oil on the skin (usually a result of hormonal changes that begin around puberty) and bacteria on the skin can clog pores. It stands to reason, then, that the way to cure acne is to prevent pores from clogging in the first place, or unclog them if they are already clogged. Let’s look at how we can do this.
The first option is to use acne cleansing products. These can commonly be found over the counter at supermarkets or drugstores. Most of them are designed to wash away excess oil and unclog pores.
There are also some products that feed nutrients directly into your skin, although it hasn’t been proven that this is effective.
Another option is to use internal products, such as certain pills, which are designed to regulate oil production and/or hormone production. This is the reason why, for some women, going on birth control pills will reduce their acne.
Eating right and exercising is said to be able to help clear up acne, too.
If you are a woman, avoid wearing too much makeup as some kinds of makeup can clog pores. It’s also a good idea to not touch your own face too much since doing so can spread around oil and dirt.
There are also some prescription methods you can use, but in order to get these you will have to visit a doctor or dermatologist. Prescription acne treatments can be either external or internal, such as pills.
Remember that acne is affected by many factors, such as hormones, genetics, stress, and diet. You can’t control your genetics, but you can take measures to help your acne in the other ways.

Tags: Acne, skinAcne is one of the most common skin problems affecting people worldwide. A big misconception is that acne affects only teenagers, but many are surprised to learn that adults also suffer from this same inconvenience. Among the many causes are clogged pores resulting from makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes. While acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated.
One of the best natural remedies for acne is to wash your face at least twice on a daily basis. Early in the morning and late at night are both good times to cleanse the face. A moisturizing soap will be the most gentle for your skin whereas others with a harsh ingredient may strip the skin of it’s natural moisture and may even cause itching and/or redness.
Many people choose to use retail acne treatment products, which can be effective if used properly. It is very important, however, that consumers read and understand the instructions and/or warning labels found in the packaging. All acne treatment creams, pads or face wash products should be kept away from the eyes and are for external use only. This is not only true of retail products, but prescribed medications as well.
For a recurring or severe case of acne, many sufferers turn to a dermatologist for a more aggressive treatment. In most cases, a prescribed routine and medication can help to treat acne. In most cases, a follow-up visit will be scheduled so that the doctor may monitor the patient’s progress and determine whether additional steps should be taken to treat the problem.
It is very important to avoid aggravating, or disrupting, any and all acne blemishes. Otherwise, the sufferer will face a possible bacterial infection from dirt and/or germs that may reside underneath the fingernail. Many believe that just because their fingernails appear clean, there is nothing to worry about. That’s simply not true. There are many germs and bacteria, which are not visible to the naked eye, that reside underneath the fingernail. This is why an acne sufferer should avoid any direct contact between their hand and the blemish area(s).

If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist or qualified physician for acne treatment.

June 3rd, 2009Dental Care
by :Raj Kumar
Our main goal when we undergo teeth whitening processes is to have our teeth whitened per se and not to add more problems to it. Understanding the root of the problem and knowing the possible solutions for it and at the same time knowing its effects on our problem is the first and the best thing to do.
Common Teeth Whiteners and Processes
When we have discolored or yellowish teeth, our first major option is to seek an expert dental advice. Upon seeing the onset of discoloration on your teeth, your dentist may suggest either of these methods and procedures:
- Clinically supervised methods. It is the most likely solution you can get from your dentist wherein your dentist itself will grab the opportunity of your teeth problem and would be more than willing to give a solution to it.
These clinical procedures may include:
- Laser teeth whitening
- Veneers
- Teeth bleaching
Other procedures include herbal remedies which utilize effective herbs as primary tooth whitening agents, home-based techniques using natural ingredients found in our homes like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, salt, acids from fruits and take-home kits which is a clinically prepared stuffs that contains all the essentials in it.
Nobody’s Perfect
It is given that regardless of the procedures and methods available to whiten teeth, their aim is one and only one, to bring back the shine in our teeth. But in spite of this aspiration, each of them can have a varying effect as well as risks depending on the sensitivity of the person to a certain treatment. Risks also vary depending on how the procedures and techniques were carried out.
Risks and Side Effects
Clinical procedures were known to be more effective compared to procedures done at home. It is true because clinically used elements contain a much stronger concentration compared to those being used in take home kits. Hydrogen peroxide in clinical procedures can sometimes have as high as ten times more concentration than what is being used in take-home kits. This explains its effectiveness. But remember that the risks of having burned gums and lips and permanently sensitive teeth after the procedure is through would also be ten times greater if the procedure would go wrong.
Laser procedure is considered as a very effective method in whitening the teeth but it is not recommended for those having sensitive teeth. It can cause permanent teeth damage in such cases.
Veneers can be one of the best options for you but aside from its very high cost, you might also get stuck in going back many times to your dentist to complete the installation. This process by the way only covers your teeth to hide away the color.
On the other hand, natural, herbal and other at-home teeth whitening remedies can also cause undesired side effects ranging from sensitivity of teeth to stripped-off enamel. Be careful when using these products. A home based technique sometimes poses a greater intensity of side effects and risks compared to clinical methods due to lack of expert supervision. No matter what kind of procedure you opted for, take precautionary measures religiously.
